Near Schondorf, the painter and porcelain-designer Adelbert Niemeyer (1867-1932) and the Swiss painter Hans Beat Wieland (1867-1945) built their homes on neighbor grounds. In Schondorf settled Heinz and Walter Rose (1902-71 and 1903-64). In Utting, the artist Eduard von Selzam (1859-1951) constructed a romantic estate in late medieval style. Since 1905 the painters of the Munich artists association “Scholle” settled in Holzhausen: Fritz Erler (1868-1940), Adolf Münzer (1870-1953) and Walter Georgi (1871-1924) whose studios are partly preserved. The artist couple Mathias and Anna Sophie Gasteiger (1871-1934 /1877- 1954) built a large residence at the lakefront which can be visited today. Their neighbor Eduard Thöny (1866-1950) was drawing nearly his whole life for the “Simplicissimus”. Also, the versatile graphic designer Paul Neu (1881-1940) was part of this circle. He designed his home at Schondorf where he lived since 1911. Some of these artists and many others associated in 1934 in Landsberg in the even today existing “Künstlergilde”. Further associations thereof originated: “Freie Kunstkompanie” (1968), “Regionalverband bildender Künstler, Oberbayern-West e.V.” (1988). This brochure introduces the artists living in the county of Landsberg today. Thomas Raff
